Young Seafood Chef of the Year 2018
The Big Prawn Company were extremely delighted to attend the finals of Young Seafood Chef of the Year. Hosted at Grimsby Institute, guests were treated to 3 courses of delicious seafood from young chefs across the country. The young students competed around the country in their initial heats. From there, 9 teams were shortlisted into the finals. Held at Grimsby Institute, the students had prepared two courses: a starter and a main. The intermediary course was a surprise invention test. Big Prawn supplied the surprise ingredient: our Madagascan Tiger Prawns. Find out more about the invention test here.
There were four judges at the competition: celebrity chef, Galton Blackiston; Seafish official, Nikki Hawkins; renowned chef, Franck Pontais; and development manager at Youngs, Serge Nollent.
This competition provides young chefs across the seafood industry with valuable experience and an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding, flair, ability, and skill in using seafood from sustainable sources. Testing their creativity alongside knowledge, all guests were extremely impressed with the level of culinary expertise from the young chefs with a budding future ahead of themselves.
A big congratulations to the winning team from West College Scotland.
