Why Everyone Should Enjoy Lobster
All About Lobster
Some cool facts to begin with… these crustaceans hang out on the sea floor, they taste with their legs, chew with their stomachs and apparently can also regenerate their limbs. I’ll add a disclaimer here: I’ve never actually spoken to a lobster to confirm any of these facts, so for now, thank you internet.
However, what I can confirm is that lobster is delicious. I’d never actually tried lobster until 3 years ago when I was on holiday in Mexico. I had a lobster tail for the first time and wondered why I’d never tried it sooner. It was delicious, indulgent, served with butter and topped with grilled prawns. I was overlooking the ocean and remember thinking “life is good”. I probably followed Good Charlotte’s lyrics here, thinking it was bought and eaten by rich people, however, you can buy frozen lobster that’s most definitely affordable and can be prepared at home.
The Big Prawn Co lobster is sourced from Canada, using sustainable methods and each lobster is checked for size before being caught – to make sure it’s mature enough to have bred at least once.
How to enjoy lobster
They are super versatile – famous in New England, the lobster roll is served on a hot dog bun that’s sliced the wrong way. Some lobster rolls are served with mayo, others with butter, lemon and black pepper.
It’s great in a bisque, the delicious meat intertwined with the smooth, creamy, hot soup.
A personal favourite is lobster surf and turf. Rump steak, seasoned with salt and pepper, cooked over a hot grill, with a topping of delicious barbecued lobster, seasoned with nothing but melted butter and a squeeze of lemon before serving. Utterly divine and a way to take your backyard summer dining up a notch.
Perhaps you are a big fan of mac and cheese? Take it from a quick midweek meal to dinner party delicious with the inclusion of lobster meat and a baked herby breadcrumb topping.
Whilst lobster may be a once in a while, special occasion treat when eating out, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t enjoy this premium seafood in the comfort of your own home. If you’re trying it for the first time, a good seafood restaurant is probably the place to do it.
Plus it’s got some great vitamins and minerals including zinc, magnesium, Vitamin B12 and also a sprinkling of those omega-3 fatty acids that we’re all needing to consume more of.
And if you are looking for an awesome fact to impress people as you serve up that lobster mac and cheese to your dinner party guests, remind everyone that what’s now considered a luxury was so plentiful and cheap in colonial times that lobsters were only eaten by the poor and served to prisoners and servants. If only they could see us now…
